An old school barbershop on Ocean View’s Broad Street is in need of the community’s financial support.
The small business has weathered the pandemic, declining foot traffic and growing operational costs. Now it needs more monetary support to stabilize the business.
Lacy's Barbershop launched a GoFundMe campaign on Feb. 19 to raise $4,500 to help keep the shop running, and potentially begin a new chapter.
Lloyd Lacy Jr., the shop’s longtime owner who goes by Lacy and could not be reached by press time, has no plans to retire, according to the GoFundMe post. In fact, the business is in the process of joining the San Francisco Register of Legacy Businesses.

District 11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen is supporting the effort. On Tuesday, she had her hair cut at Lacy’s, and shared a post on social media encouraging the public to also support.
“I’ve been cutting hair here since 1972, and worked here with my godfather until 1998, and I’ve done everything you can do with some hair,” Lacy said.
Lacy’s godfather bought the shop in 1952 when it was Furlough's Tonsorial Parlor. Lacy took over in 2010 and has harbored a dream of opening a barber college where he can teach the next generation of hair stylists.
“Lacy’s is a cornerstone in our neighborhood, providing great hair services and irreplaceable atmosphere,” the OMI Cultural Participation Project posted on social media.
