Go Chicken Brings Unique Asian Cuisine To Ocean Avenue

A new restaurant cooking up Chinese cuisine soft-opened on Wednesday on Lakeside Village’s Ocean Avenue. 

Go Chicken serves Asian-inspired classics in the space of the former Hong Kong-style restaurant Wok Up which opened in August last year.

“The owner thinks this is a good place,” manager Jenny Yu said.

Go Chicken’s menu is split into 10 sections that include chicken, pork rib, small eats, wok, vegetable and tofu, noodle soup, chow fun and noodles, rice, soup, and drinks. Items range from white beech mushroom pan-fried chicken tenders and caramelized spare ribs with ube to black truffle duck fried rice and honey-glazed walnut shrimp with cranberry aioli.

Yu said staff favorites are the orange chicken tenders, fried chicken pieces in a sticky orange glaze, and sand storm chicken wings, which come in a serving of 10 and are dry-fried with onion, chillies, and other aromatics.

The man behind the menu is Chef Jeffery, who Yu said uses his heart and passion to create unique fusions. Chef Jeffery and his staff also utilize fresh ingredients, deep fryers, and woks to prepare each meal.

“He enjoys cooking,” Yu said. “He has good creativity and makes you feel at home and feel happy and warm.”

The restaurant offers ample seating of green and cream upholstery booths, dark brown wooden chairs, and dark brown wooden tables in between, with oval-shaped ceiling lights hanging above each table. Some seats also show a direct view of the open kitchen, where patrons can see their food being made to order.

Many residents were intrigued by the new opening, with several checking out a menu posted on the shop’s window.

Friends of Lakeside Village’s Kath Tsakalakis said it was “another exciting restaurant to try on Ocean Avenue.”
