A Chinatown restaurant known for its claypot cuisine and late-night hours closed its location on Ingleside’s Ocean Avenue.

Restaurateur Gavin Chak confirmed to The Light that Taishan Cuisine will not be reopening despite a sign posted on the door telling passersby in Cantonese that the space would be renovated.

The Ingleside location was meant to build on the success of the location on Broadway in Chinatown. The business did suffer a break-in about a month after opening.

During the restaurant's soft-opening last year, Chak told The Light that the neighborhood was responding well to its offerings.

"They like our dishes," he said. "Some of the dishes aren’t provided in the neighborhood. A lot of restaurants don’t have them.”

Chak did not respond when questioned about why the restaurant closed.
