Bay Wheels installed an 18-stall bike rental station at the intersection of Ocean and Brighton avenues this week.
The Lyft-owned company won approval from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency in early 2021 to place the station there after abandoning plans to place the station at the intersection of Holloway and Grafton avenues.

A new report commissioned by District Five Supervisor Dean Preston commissioned estimates it would cost $33.2 million initially and $18.2 million annually for San Francisco to own and operate its own bike-share system.
Preston's inquiry stems from an idea to municipalize bike-share when Lyft’s exclusive contract to operate Bay Wheels in San Francisco expires in 2027.
