New Venue Proposal Sparks Fears of Stratos Nightclub 2.0
Some neighbors fear late-night noise and crime, while the business owners insist they want to host community events and dance classes at their venue.
Police arrested a suspect, and a street safety advocacy organization has demanded that City Hall make improvements to the dangerous boulevard.
A bicyclist was killed by a hit-and-run driver at Alemany Boulevard and Naglee Avenue on Monday morning, according to police.
San Francisco Police Department and Fire Department personnel responded to the scene of the incident at approximately 7 a.m. The victim was found in the roadway and immediately declared deceased.
"A combined effort from Ingleside officers, Bayview officers and SFPD’s Traffic Collision Investigation Unit led to an arrest," according to the Ingleside Police Station newsletter.
The Light asked the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the victim's identity but did not immediately receive a response.
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition issued a statement about the death that called for safety improvements along Alemany Boulevard since it has been the site of many collisions over the years.
"Today, in the wake of another preventable death along this corridor, we demand that city leaders direct the [San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency] to accelerate implementation of street safety and traffic calming projects in District 11, and prioritize projects that adhere to All Ages and Abilities standards, to ensure that everyone in San Francisco can get where they need to go by their chosen mode without risking their lives," the nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization stated.
Although an arrest has been made, the investigation is ongoing.
