The Office of San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins on Wednesday charged the man alleged to have committed a home invasion burglary-turned-homicide in Ingleside over the weekend.

Prosecutors charged 45-year-old Cassidy Wyatt Allen, an unhoused San Francisco resident, with one count of murder, with a special circumstance allegation that the killing was committed during a first-degree burglary, and one count of first-degree residential burglary.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed to The Light that the victim was 38-year-old Jessica Alejandra Sanchez Landaverde on Wednesday morning.

Allen is accused of breaking into the Granada Avenue home through the entrance window and killing Landaverde in a bedroom. Police, alerted by another tenant, found the victim on Sunday. Allen was arrested on Monday. He is to be arraigned on Tuesday next week.

Also on Wednesday, Jenkins joined city officials for a merchant walk on Ingleside's stretch of Ocean Avenue, which has been the site of two pedestrian deaths and two stabbing homicides this year.

Michael Farrah, a legislative aide to District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar, participated in the walk. In a letter to neighbors, he said the purpose of the walk was to "speak directly with residents and merchants about public safety in the corridor" and "advance concrete solutions."

Farrah wrote that two themes emerged from neighbors and merchants alike: traffic safety and crime.

Participants complained about speeding, reckless driving, and red-light violations on Ocean Avenue and nearby intersections.

"This remains a top priority for our office, and we are actively coordinating with [San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency] and SFPD on strategies to improve safety for seniors, families, students and transit riders," Farrah wrote.

The other issue, violent crime and crimes committed by repeat offenders, was left to Jenkins and Harmstron. A conviction this week in a property crime case involving a repeat offender at a laundromat was cited as a recent victory.

"Overall, merchants said that they feel that the neighborhood is safe, but there have been a few isolated incidents in the area recently that cause concern," the DA's office posted on social media.

It's unclear what changes have been implemented to improve public safety since the two other homicides on Ocean Avenue in the summer.

District 11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen last issued a statement about the home-invasion homicide on social media two days ago that stated her office was "horrified" over the incident and pledged her office would work with police to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

Chen is in China with Board President Rafael Mandelman.

Anyone with information about the homicide case is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
