A show in the name of medical aid and support for Cuba is coming to Ocean Ale House.
The benefit concert, named ¡Cuba Vive! – A Night of Music & Solidarity is a night for the community to come together, spread awareness, and garner collective action in support of Cuba and the ongoing oil shortage and economic crisis. There will be live music from the local band El Guajiro and food and beverages available for purchase.
“We believe the Cuban people are entitled to sovereignty, and want to contribute to the people suffering the most from this horrific pressure the U.S. is putting on Cuba,” co-organizer Andrea Pereira said.
The event is a fundraiser. Donations will go to the Hatuey Project, a group of healthcare providers and social justice advocates that supports Cuba through medical aid. Proceeds will be used to deliver life-saving medicine to children in Cuba.
“We stand against the inhumane 60-plus year blockade that has set Cuba up for crisis, and now collapsed their national grid,” co-organizer and Upstream podcast host Della Duncan said. “We believe the Cuban people are entitled to sovereignty, and want to contribute to the people suffering the most from this horrific pressure the U.S. is putting on Cuba.”
Attendees will also hear from guest speakers on the current situation in Cuba and why solidarity matters. Niki Franco, a participant of the recent Let Cuba Live Brigade and host of Getting to the Root of it, and Gloria La Riva, an activist and leader of the Hatuey Project, are scheduled to talk.
“Please join us, have a good time, listen to music and donate what you can,” El Guajiro frontman Johnny Escobedo said. “Make a difference.”
