First Look: $53M Ingleside Police Station Renovation, Replacement Project

The 1910-built station in Balboa Park will be renovated, and a new state-of-the-art station will be built beside it. Here are the details.

A project to renovate and preserve the San Francisco Police Department’s historic Ingleside Station and build a state-of-the-art replacement station next door is steadily advancing.

The Department of Public Works-led Ingleside Police Station Replacement Project has been in the planning and design phase since 2021, the same year the 1910-built station was deemed seismically deficient in the event of a major earthquake.

The $53 million project will be paid for with voter-approved funds from the 2020 Earthquake Safety and Emergency Response bond.

“The San Francisco Police Department is grateful for the community surrounding Ingleside Police Station for their ongoing support to our officers,” SFPD Strategic Communications Manager Mason Lee said. “The much-needed capital improvements to the police station will be vital to all the neighborhoods that it serves.”

The new building will sit between the historic station and Boxer Stadium. Its construction will not interfere with the work of Ingleside Station officers, Lee said.
