Here's a look at Robert B. Howard's "The Whales" statue just outside City College of San Francisco's Student Success Center.

The quarter-scale, 17.5-ton work of art was in disrepair for nearly 20 years after the California Academy of Sciences determined it did not fit into its renovation plans in the early 2000s. The San Francisco Arts Commission agreed to give it to City College of San Francisco, but it was damaged during the move over, and repairs were neglected for over a decade.

Now the 86-year-old statue, now tightly wrapped in a blue tarpaulin, will be unwrapped when the Student Success Center opens in June.

The Ingleside Light acquired the photo of the newly installed statue.
