The project team behind the 1,100-unit Balboa Reservoir project announced construction preparation activities, community meetings and more on Friday evening.
In the first update since April, the project team, led by AvalonBay Communities, announced the start of construction.
"Infrastructure work will formally begin in October, while preparatory work for Building E will follow soon thereafter," according to the announcement.
The project team selected Nibbi Brothers General Contractors for both the infrastructure — roads, sidewalks, etc. — and Building E, BRIDGE Housing's $80 million, 128-unit 100% affordable building. The 159-unit Building A will break ground early next year.
Beginning in early August, Nibbi Brothers crews will begin storing materials on site ahead of construction in October.
Dump trucks will deliver soil and base rock to a 100' by 300' reservoir's western berm over two weeks, starting on Aug. 4. The materials will be covered with a dust suppressant to comply with San Francisco's mitigation requirements. Air monitors will be deployed and street sweepers will prevent soil from entering the combined sewage-stormwater system.
"Material import will be limited to standard construction hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday," according to the project team.
The team will host two community meetings in August. The first meeting will be held on Aug. 2 and focus on the pre-construction work. The second will feature the project's design and architecture teams to discuss, along with the general contractor team, who will discuss the construction schedule in detail. A point of contact for information regarding any issues that may arise during the construction process will also be introduced.
More information regarding construction schedules and more will be available on the project website on Aug. 18.
