Longtime Ingleside golf shop Dogleg has permanently closed and is up for lease after the death of its founder last year.
Floyd Glenn opened the shop in 1990 after retiring from the San Francisco Unified School District, where he worked as a teacher for decades.
Glenn spent his teenage years as a caddy and learned golf store trade from Golfsmith’s Carl Paul in 1985.
Inside his Ashton Avenue shop, Glenn would make, repair, regrip and re-shaft golf clubs on the spot. Glenn, whose shop was named after a crooked fairway, had a devoted client base not just for his skill but also for his personality.
“Glenn was a wonderful man,” said Gary Cimino, whose Ingleside Barber Shop was nearby in the same building. “He was a great guy and taught me how to golf as well.”

That’s Amore SF owner Ahmad Murad, whose restaurant is located two storefronts away, said he learned of Glenn’s death four to five months ago. Glenn was about 90 years old.
“Dogleg wasn't just a shop,” Murad said. “It was a reflection of Floyd himself.”
Compass Real Estate Agent Ivan Leung said his company had recently put a “for lease” sign on the small storefront. They’ve already received interest for the space from several individuals, Leung said.
Though the store is closed, the lessons and kindness Glenn showed to the community have stuck with those who frequented his shop.
“He brought a real passion, authenticity and character to the block,” Murad said.
