A person was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Ocean Avenue at Ashton on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:42 p.m. in front of 24 Hour Fitness.

Despite CPR and other life-saving measures by first responders, the victim died on the scene. San Francisco Fire Department personnel alerted the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to the case. An investigator with the medical examiner's office arrived around 8 p.m.

A witness cooperating with San Francisco Police Department officers by sharing dashcam footage of the incident told The Light that the driver drove a dark-colored sedan through the intersection without hesitation.

The police department's on-call public information officer was not immediately available to provide more information. Investigators took over the scene.

Jose Daniel, who was inside the pizzeria That's Amore SF, said he was driving by when the incident happened.

"I just heard a little scream and a bump," Daniel said. "That's all there was to it. And then 30 minutes later, as I'm eating on the far end of the restaurant, I look out the window and see a bunch of tape and an ambulance."

A pedestrian was killed eight blocks away at Ocean and Lee avenues in August. The Medical Examiner never provided The Ingleside Light with the victim's name despite multiple requests.

Two years ago, city agencies deemed Ocean Avenue dangerous enough to restore its position on the Vision Zero High Injury Corridor Network.
