Residents and passersby saw something unusual on Tuesday: a derailed K Ingleside light rail train looking forlorn like a beached whale.
The incident occurred in front of the Curtis E. Green Light Rail Center on San Jose Avenue at Geneva Avenue. No one was injured.
"We are grateful there were no injuries or passengers on board and no impact to other trains," said Parisa Safarzadeh, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's director of communications.
Footage of the derailed train published on social media garnered 11,300 likes and 2,800 shares. A handful of commenters posted that they had never seen a derailed train before.

The transit agency could not provide information about what caused the derailment or the cost of any repairs, if any were required, at this time.
In response to the derailment, the agency sent buses to connect M Ocean View riders from the area to Broad Street and Plymouth Avenue.
"We mitigated impacts to operations safely and thoroughly, and the appropriate steps are underway, including working with the California Public Utilities Commission, our state regulatory oversight agency, to understand the cause of this incident," Safarzadeh said.
The SFMTA has up to 60 days to complete its investigation.
A retired Muni operator, who declined to be named, said the trackway where the incident occurred is not used for public service and that the cause of the derailment was a headscratcher given the mess of track switches in the area.
