Ingleside's Taqueria El Jalapeño is changing hands after 20 years.

Elvia Torrez, the Ocean Avenue taqueria's longtime owner, could not be reached for comment. She handed over the keys to the new owners at the end of March.

Miles Escobedo, co-owner of Ocean Ale House and a longtime customer, lamented Torrez's departure, stating that she was a good neighbor and operated her business with heart.

Escobedo said the new owners are hard at work preparing the space to reopen in the next two to three months. (And a pair of workers told The Light that it would remain a taqueria and open in two weeks or so.)

Business records indicate Torrez registered the business in 2006. The little Mexican grill survived the pandemic, a feat for many Ingleside businesses, and has been well-received by customers, reviews on social media show.

San Francisco photographer Jay Martin captured the taqueria 22 years apart in a project called “Our Ocean Avenue — Then and Now.”

The Light could not reach the new owners.
